My Aunt Linda (Sue Osstyn) passed away today at age 67 in Cadillac.


Linda S. Osstyn CADILLAC – Linda S. Osstyn, age 67, of Cadillac, formerly of Marquette, passed away July 21, 2010 at Lakeview Lutheran Manor. She was born July 19, 1943 to Bernard and Virl (South) Gregg, in Detroit. She grew up in the Detroit area, lived for a brief time in Cadillac, and spent over 25 years in the Marquette area. She lived for three years in Gaylord, and has spent the last 2 ½ years in Cadillac. Prior to retirement, Linda worked for the State of Michigan, Department of Civil Service, as a Senior Level Examiner in the Financial Institutions Bureau, Bank and Trust Division, for the Upper Peninsula area. Linda held a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Northern Michigan University, a Master of Science Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor Degree in English from Wayne State University. Prior to moving to Marquette, she worked as an elementary school teacher for Detroit public schools. Linda enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, glass etching, jewelry making, and other arts-and-crafts projects. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time at her cabin in Little Lake. While living in Marquette, she was active in the Peninsula Waters Girl Scout Council, the Cub Scouts, Young Authors, and several other organizations. Linda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two children, Alicia (Jeffrey) Conradson of Cadillac and Neal Osstyn of Royal Oak; two grandsons, Drew and Kyle Conradson; two sisters, Barbara Gaitley of Van Nuys, California and Sandy (Mike) VanLandschoot of Longmont, Colorado; and her dog, Oscar. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Swanson Funeral Home on Saturday, July 31, beginning at 12:00 noon. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm Saturday afternoon with Rev. Leon Jarvis, Marquette General Hospital chaplain, presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials in honor of Linda Osstyn to be made to the Marquette County Humane Society, 84 Snowfield Road, Negaunee, MI 49866.
